So I had to write this review after receiving this item just yesterday. Mostly in response to the 3 one star reviews that claim this item is not a Nikon item and is an aftermarket bettery instead. I'm not sure why if you did order this item you got an aftermarket item because the one I had delivered yesterday is in fact a Nikon brand and came in the official Nikon Package and was made in Japan and not China as the one review stated. So if you are looking for this battery for your Nikon camera rest easy you will get an official replacement and not some knock off.

When I received this battery. It did not say "Nikon". I believe this to be false advertisement unless I missed some fine print. The only print on the battery is: "Lithium Ion BATTERY PACK for EN-EL14 7.4V 1050mAh" on one side and Made in China on the other. It has the same shape as my Nikon D3100 DSLR battery that came with my camera, but my original battery says 7.4V 1030mAh 7.7Wh. When I put the battery in the camera it said, "! This battery cannot be used. Choose battery designated for use in this camera." Not Happy to Have to Return This Item. BEWARE!!!

In addition to the one that came with the 5D Mark II, I also bought a separate one to fill the second bay in the BG-E6 Vertical Grip.

My initial experience with the battery was less than stellar -- if you are currently disappointed with the battery capacity (especially if it's new), hear me out.

After the first charge out of the box, the single battery lasted about a day with maybe 100 RAW shots and a couple of minutes worth of 1080p video. VERY disappointing to say the least. But here's the thing -- it really needs to go through a couple of full cycles (full discharge, full charge) before it reaches its peak capability.

At the time of my last charge, I had shot well over 2700 RAW frames on two batteries -- and both of those batteries each reported 60% charge remaining at that point... Read more

Please be aware that the Marketplace seller from whom I purchased this battery sold me a counterfeit battery. This battery is frequently counterfeited and Amazon.com does nothing to stop the practice. This reseller is crooked, and uses a large number of different aliases to rip-off unsuspecting consumers. It is sad to see that Amazon.com is complicit in this criminal behavior.

If you don't believe me, search the internet for the address that the seller is using: 3522 Flatlands Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Interestingly enough, another camera business by the name of Fumfie also sold/sells camera equipment from the same Brooklyn storefront. Fumfie has a Better Business Bureau rating of 'F'.

I purchased this to have a backup for when I was conducting long shoots. I have found that I typically do not use both batteries on most shoots. Actually, I've found that I will fill up 40gb worth of SDHC cards before I switch out batteries when I'm shooting RAW+JPG on my Nikon D7000.

Nikon gives a couple of different ratings for how many shots you can get on a full charge with this battery.

Testing according to the CIPA standard show this battery can take 1,050 shots on a single charge. Under these test conditions the room temperature is 73.4 degrees Fahrenheit (+/- 3.6 degrees). A Nikon 18-105mm lens is used. The focus is moved from infinity to minimum focus and a shot is taken every 30 seconds. The on board Speedlight flash is fired every other shot. This does not use live view.

Not too much to say about a battery.

Its a genuine Nikon product so there is no question about the quality. As much as I wanted to find a cheap 3rd party alternative like I did with my D90 that took EN-EL3's, I do feel a bit more confident in having an OEM battery.

So I guess in conclusion, its exactly what its supposed to be and works exactly like I need it to.
